The Okinawan Diet

As promised...

From an email by Dr. Rose Espiritu:

Apparently, Japan, specifically Okinawa and Kyushu, has more than its fair share old people (maybe an average of 95-100 years?). Analyzing their regular diets, this is what came out-- Daily portions ito:

7 servings of whole grains (pag processed 1/2 cup lang)
7 servings veggies (pag cooked- 1/2 cup)fish 3x week
3 servings soya/day
meat 1-2x/month
no added salt
almost nonexistent dairy products
fruits for dessert.

Furthermore, they advise that as you hit 50, one must reduce by 30% the total food intake. As to food supplements:Selenium, (125mg ba?), fishoil (1 g for women, 2 g for men), vit e (400u), vit c (500mg), are highly suggested plus a multivitamin supplement if there is a lot of processed foods in the diet. Primorose oil for women and saw palmetto for males.
